A fourth-generation resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Kevin Coughlin was elected to three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and served there from 1997-2001. In 2001, he was appointed to the Ohio Senate, where Summit County voters elected and reelected him in 2002 and 2006.

Coughlin introduces legislation to create Ohio Promise Scholarship Program
Columbus-Seeking to increase the number of Ohio residents with a college degree, state Senator Kevin Coughlin today introduced a legislative package that would create a new scholarship program designed to put a college education within reach of more Ohioans. Together, Senate Joint Resolution 9 and Senate Bill 224 would create the Ohio Promise Scholarship, which would provide eligible Ohio high school students who attend an in-state college or university with a scholarship worth up to $7,000 each year.

Coughlin Co-Sponsors Healthy Choices for Healthy Children Legislation
Columbus - A bi-partisan effort to decrease and prevent childhood obesity was introduced today in the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives, with the strong support of the Healthy Choices for Healthy Children coalition. The Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation is co-sponsored by Senator Kevin Coughlin and Senator Eric H. Kearney (D-Cincinnati) in the Ohio Senate. Representatives John Patrick Carney (D-Columbus) and Lynn Wachtmann (R-Napoleon) are co-sponsoring the bill in the Ohio House.

Coughlin announces funding in support of Goodyear project
Columbus- Ohio State Senator Kevin Coughlin today announced the state Controlling Board approved a $3 million Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund grant for clean up activities at the future site of Goodyear's world headquarters in Akron. The project is part of an $800 million redevelopment plan that will retain 2,900 jobs.

Coughlin announces Little Tikes facility to receive funding for new equipment
Columbus-State Senator Kevin Coughlin today announced the state Controlling Board has approved a $3.25 million loan and a $300,000 grant to assist with the purchase of machinery and equipment needed for the production of new toys and products at the Little Tikes facility in Hudson. This project will result in the creation of 66 new jobs as well as the retention of nearly 400 others.

Coughlin introduces bill to create Paul Newman Day
Columbus - State Senator Kevin Coughlin today introduced Senate Bill 125, legislation that would designate January 26 of each year as "Paul Newman Day" in the state of Ohio. Newman was an Ohio-native, stage and movie veteran who also had a successful racecar career and was well-known for his philanthropic work, died last year following a long battle with cancer at the age of 83.

Columbus - State Senator Kevin Coughlin recently introduced Senate Joint Resolution 4, which seeks to restructure the State Apportionment Board to bring more balance and fairness to Ohio's method for redrawing legislative districts. Senator Coughlin and State Senator Gary Cates (R-Butler County), who is a cosponsor of the bill, met with reporters yesterday to discuss the proposal.
