Senator Kevin Coughlin

A fourth-generation resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Kevin Coughlin was elected to three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and served there from 1997-2001. In 2001, he was appointed to the Ohio Senate, where Summit County voters elected and reelected him in 2002 and 2006.

Senator Coughlin is Chairman of the Health, Human Services and Aging Committee, and he also serves on the Judiciary- Criminal Justice Committee and the Rules Committee.

Kevin is a leader in the Council of State Governments (CSG), serving on CSG’s Executive Committee and Governing Board and as co-chair of the CSG international Committee. CSG assists elected and appointed officials in all branches of government in identifying emerging social, economic and political trends and advocates multi-state problem solving to maximize resources and competitiveness. Senator Coughlin is also a past chair of the CSG Midwestern Legislative Conference, consisting of lawmakers and staff from 11 Midwest states and three Canadian provinces.

For five years, Coughlin co-chaired CSG's Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development, which trains 33 Midwestern legislators every year to be strong leaders. In 2005, Senator Coughlin was called "one of the nation's most promising leaders in state government" by the Council of State Governments as he was selected for its Toll Fellowship leadership program.

In addition to his legislative duties, Senator Coughlin is also a member of the Ohio Arts Council and serves on the Board of Directors of Flying Horse Farms, a camp for seriously ill children being constructed in Mount Gilead, Ohio. The camp will serve children from Ohio and surrounding states that have cancer, sickle cell disease, heart disease, hemophilia and related blood disorders, and other serious illnesses at no cost to the children or their families. Flying Horse Farms is a provisional member of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps.

Closer to home, Kevin Coughlin is actively involved in the community. Kevin is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Blossom Music Center Board of Overseers, Fraternal Order of Police Associates, and Darrow Street Grange. He occasionally teaches political science at the University of Akron.

A graduate of Woodridge High School, Kevin Coughlin holds a BA and a Masters of Public Administration from Bowling Green State University. He and his wife Anne Coughlin, a physical therapist, live in Cuyahoga Falls with their daughters Kathryn and Elizabeth.
