Senator Kirk Schuring

State Senator Kirk Schuring has served the people of Stark County in the Legislature for more than 16 years, first as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and now in the Ohio Senate. Senator Schuring currently serves as chairman of the Agriculture Committee and as vice-chair of the Education Committee. He is also a member of the Judiciary-Civil Justice Committee, the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee and is the vice-chair of the Ohio Retirement Study Council and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund Board.

Since joining the General Assembly, Schuring has authored dozens of legislative initiatives benefiting health care, economic development, and families that have been passed into law. These include the establishment of Joint Economic Development Districts and Cooperative Economic Development Agreements to help further economic development in communities across the state, as well as bills stiffening penalties for repeat domestic violence offenders and enhancing school safety zones. Schuring has also been involved in improving Ohio laws regarding organ donation, acupuncture and nursing and chiropractic care.

Senator Schuring’s dedication to the people of Ohio has brought him numerous accolades. He has been named Legislator of the Year by AMVETS – Department of Ohio, the Ohio Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers, the Ohio Association of Free Clinics, the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, the Ohio Speech and Hearing Association, the Public Children Services Association of Ohio, and the Ohio Association of Acupuncturists. Schuring has also been named a Friend of Public Education by the Ohio Federation of Teachers and is a recipient of the Heritage Award for his work in establishing Ohio’s Historic Preservation tax credit law.

A life-long resident of Stark County, Schuring graduated from Perry High School and attended Kent State University. He is married and has two children.
