Senator

State Senator Nina Turner represents Cleveland and the 25th Senate District. She joined the Ohio Senate in September 2008 after serving on Cleveland City Council. An outspoken advocate of the disenfranchised and under-represented, Senator Turner believes that if individuals are provided with the means they will craft for themselves their own American dream. Senator Turner began her political career as a legislative aide to former State Senator Rhine McLin. She also served in the Administration of former Cleveland Mayor Michael White. In addition to her duties in the Ohio Senate, Senator Turner teaches at Cuyahoga Community College.

Senator Turner Awarded Fellowship for Prestigious Leadership Institute
Columbus - Senator Nina Turner has been selected as one of only 37 lawmakers to participate in a training program for promising state leaders.  Senator Turner will join fellow lawmakers from 11 Midwestern states and three Canadian provinces this summer for the Council of State Governments' 16th annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development.

Senator Turner Calls for Increased Monitoring of Sex Offenders
Columbus – Senator Nina Turner today urged members of the Senate Judiciary and Criminal Justice Committee to support stronger monitoring of sex offenders. Senator Turner testified on behalf of Senate Bill 217, a bill she introduced in the General Assembly to enable law enforcement to keep better track of Tier III sex offenders, the most serious category of sex offenders under Ohio law. Senator Turner proposed the legislation to address concerns raised by her constituents following the Imperial Avenue slayings in Cleveland.

Senator Turner Introduces Legislation to Increase Oversight of Sex Offenders
Columbus – Senator Nina Turner  introduced legislation (Senate bill 217) today in the Ohio Senate to increase oversight of Tier III sex offenders. This bill would help law enforcement agencies better monitor serious sex offenders while also raising community awareness of their presence in the community. Under Ohio law, Tier III is the most serious category for sex offenders.

Columbus - Senator Turner has announced that she will be participating in the Annual Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio Race for the Cure on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Cleveland.  The event will be held downtown at Malls B and C (East 6 and Lakeside Avenue).

Senator Turner Proposes Standards for Dropout Programs in Public Schools
Columbus - Senator Nina Turner has introduced a bill (SB 102) in the Ohio General Assembly that addresses the problem of high school dropouts.  Senate Bill 102 would direct the State Board of Education to recommend standards for dropout recovery programs operated by traditional public schools.
