Senator Ray Miller serves as Minority Whip in the Ohio Senate representing Columbus and the 15th Senate District. He is a life member of the NAACP and a highly regarded expert in the development of public policy on health, education and human service issues. He is known as the “Father of Head Start Funding” in Ohio because of his sponsorship of legislation that established the nation’s first state-level funding for the Head Start Program. Senator Miller is a graduate of Columbus East High School. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from The Ohio State University.

Senator Miller Recognizes John Patterson Green
Columbus - In 1890, John Patterson Green an early African American legislator, introduced a bill that would formally recognize Labor Day as a holiday in Green’s legislation was used as an aid to Congress in 1894 to pass a bill making Labor Day a national holiday. Green, known as the ‘Father of Labor Day’ in Ohio, wanted to establish a holiday to celebrate the contributions of workers.

Senator Ray Miller Celebrates Liberian Independence Day with Liberians in Columbus, Inc.
Columbus - Senator Ray Miller joined in celebrating the 162nd Liberian Independence Day with Liberians in Columbus, Inc. by honoring the group with an Ohio State Senate Letter of Commendation. The event presented in the Statehouse Atrium engaged the audience with musical sounds and dances of Liberia.

Learning to Be Leaders from Columbus's Finest
Columbus - Senator Miller gathered with city officials and community members to celebrate the graduation of the sixth cohort of the Ray Miller Institute for Change and Leadership at the newly remodeled Lincoln Theater. “It is poignant and fitting to honor young people who have demonstrated a commitment to the urban community in a historic building that stands as a symbol of recommitment to the rebuilding of one of city’s most historic communities,” Senator Miller said.

Senator Ray Miller Promotes Health Awareness, Criminal Justice and Civil Justice in Senate Committee Testimonies
Columbus – Senator Ray Miller spent the week actively championing constituent issues this week at the Ohio Senate by presenting sponsor testimony for three bills: Senate Bill 91 – Prohibits the use of credit rating and history as a means of discrimination in employment decisions; Senate Bill 92 – Term limits Ohio Parole Board members; and Senate Bill 108 – Creates the Hemophilia Advisory Council.
