As a mother of two active kids, I am always mindful of those issues which impact child health and safety. That's why when I read that fewer than 20% of children in Ohio wear a helmet when they are on their bike, scooter, rollerblades or skateboard, I knew I needed to get involved in the effort to promote the significant benefits of helmet use. Given what the research tells us about injury prevention, this number is woefully low and it's why I've partnered with child safety experts to promote Ohio Bicycle Helmet Safety Week during the week of May 6-10.

State Senator Shannon Jones today introduced Senate Bill 108, which moves to increase the state income tax deduction allowed for contributions to an Ohio college savings program. Currently capped at just $2,000, Jones’ bill would increase the deduction limit to $10,000.
