Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) was elected to serve Lakewood, Cleveland and Ohio's 23rd Senate District in November, 2010. He comes from the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served four terms as the Representative for Ohio's 13th House District. After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business and political science from Walsh College, Skindell earned his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He represented the people of Lakewood as a Councilman at Large between 1998 and 2002.

06.17.14 - Legislation Sponsored By Senator Skindell Signed Into Law Protecting Ohio's Disabled From Abuse And Neglect

 

Legislation sponsored by Senator Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood), was recently signed into law as a part of House Bill 483 to protect Ohio's disabled population from abuse and neglect.

Senate Bill 207 allows disabled Ohioans and their families to review inspection and compliance reports for service providers online. 

A 2013 three-part investigative series by Ron Regan of WEWS in Cleveland prompted Senator Skindell to introduce the legislation in late January. 

 
 

06.03.14 - Legislation To Protect Pets In Domestic Disputes Passes Ohio Senate

 

Columbus—Legislation sponsored by Senator Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) giving judges the authority to include pets in protection orders for victims of domestic violence unanimously passed the Ohio Senate today. The purpose of Senate Bill 177 is to empower domestic abuse victims to leave volatile environments and seek safety without worrying about the well-being of their pets.

Columbus—Senator Michael J. Skindell announced the introduction of Senate Bill 304, legislation that would ban the use of microbeads in Ohio.. Used in personal care and beauty products such as facial scrubs, body washes, toothpaste and hand soaps, these particles, coated with toxins like PCBs are being deposited into Lake Erie causing harm to the water and marine life.
