Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) is proud to join the Ohio Senate to represent Columbus and the 15th District. She is a committed public servant who served as a member of Columbus City Council from 1999 to 2010. Prior to joining Council, Tavares left a legacy for the citizens of Ohio during her 5 ½ year tenure in the Ohio General Assembly as the State Representative in the 22nd House District. Tavares was the first African-American female to serve in the state legislature from Franklin County and the first African-American woman ever to hold a leadership position in the Ohio General Assembly.

05.01.13 - Senator Tavares Introduces Telemedicine Bill

 

Columbus – Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D - Columbus) introduced the Telemedicine bill today. Senate Bill 118, the Telemedicine Act, will require insurance companies and Medicaid to cover telemedicine services.  Telemedicine as defined in the bill is a medical service delivered by a physician through the use of any communication, including oral, written or electronic communication.

Columbus –Senate Bill 19, jointly sponsored by Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) and Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville), establishing the Ohio Family Stability Commission passed out of the Ohio Senate today with a floor vote of 32-1.

 
 

04.15.13 - Tavares Sponsors Legislation To Protect Domestic Workers

 

Columbus – Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D - Columbus) will soon be introducing the Domestic Workers Act. This bill will require that domestic workers be paid the minimum wage, be paid overtime wages, make certain conduct directed towards them an unlawful discriminatory practice and require a weekly day of rest for domestic workers.
