Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) is proud to join the Ohio Senate to represent Columbus and the 15th District. She is a committed public servant who served as a member of Columbus City Council from 1999 to 2010. Prior to joining Council, Tavares left a legacy for the citizens of Ohio during her 5 ½ year tenure in the Ohio General Assembly as the State Representative in the 22nd House District. Tavares was the first African-American female to serve in the state legislature from Franklin County and the first African-American woman ever to hold a leadership position in the Ohio General Assembly.

02.17.15 - Senator Tavares Testifies In Support Of Bill To Protect Ohio Patients, Health Care Providers From Denial Of Payment From Insurance Companies

 

Columbus– Today, State Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D – Columbus) testified before the Senate Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee in support of Senate Bill 31, legislation to prohibit health insurance companies from denying payment for services in cases where the insurer provided prior written authorization.

Columbus –Today, Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) took the oath of office to serve in the Ohio Senate for the 131st General Assembly.  Senator Tavares will represent the 15th Senate District that encompasses Columbus, Bexley and parts of Grandview Heights and Reyonldsburg. She was also sworn in as the Assistant Minority Leader.

Tavares (D – Columbus), Assistant Senate Democratic Leader will be introducing legislation to implement the recommendations of the Ohio Commission on Racial Fairness. The Ohio Commission on Racial Fairness was created as a joint initiative of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Ohio in 1994 and created the report in 1999.
