Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) is proud to join the Ohio Senate to represent Columbus and the 15th District. She is a committed public servant who served as a member of Columbus City Council from 1999 to 2010. Prior to joining Council, Tavares left a legacy for the citizens of Ohio during her 5 ½ year tenure in the Ohio General Assembly as the State Representative in the 22nd House District. Tavares was the first African-American female to serve in the state legislature from Franklin County and the first African-American woman ever to hold a leadership position in the Ohio General Assembly.

03.25.15 - Senator Tavares Testifies On Bills To Remove Barriers To Healthcare Improvements In Ohio

 

Columbus – Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D - Columbus) gave sponsor testimony today in the Ohio Senate Medicaid Committee on two bills that would remove barriers to healthcare improvements for Ohioans.  Senate Bill 32, The Telehealth Act, would require insurance companies and Medicaid to cover telehealth services in Ohio.  Under the proposal, telemedicine service is defined as a medical service that is delivered by a physician through the use of any communication, including oral, written, or electronic communication.

Each year, I hope that the decisions I make in the legislature help to improve the lives of my constituents, create jobs in my community, and keep Ohio safe, healthy, thriving and economically sound. Though I wish that Ohio had a blank check and unlimited money to invest in the programs that our state needs, that just isn't reality; we have to carefully consider where we invest our limited dollars. After a father of four was tragically killed last month when a bridge collapsed in Cincinnati, it's very clear to me that investing in transportation and infrastructure needs to be a priority at both the state and federal levels.

Columbus– Today, State Senator Charleta B.
