Eklund Chosen by Senate President to Head Senate Judiciary Committee

COLUMBUS—State Senator John Eklund (R-Munson Township) was today chosen by Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) to serve as Chairman for the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I look forward to the challenges ahead as the Judiciary Committee begins to tackle some of the most important issues facing Ohio," said Eklund. "We have taken many steps to reform our criminal justice system, and keeping our families and communities safe remains a top priority. As Chairman, I look forward to our work on policies that will create a safer Ohio, while also focusing on fair sentencing, rehabilitation and getting those who serve their time back into the workforce."

A highly regarded lawyer, Senator Eklund is recognized by his colleagues for his keen understanding and articulation of complex legal matters that will come before the committee.

When not tending to legislative duties in Columbus, Eklund is a Senior Counsel at Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP where he has worked for more than 35 years. Throughout his legal career, much of his work has been centered on areas pertaining to anti-trust litigation, trade regulation, price fixing, class actions, and mergers and acquisitions.

He is a graduate of Washington and Lee School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree from Union College. He has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer in antitrust litigation, is listed in Best Lawyers in America for Antitrust Law, and is recognized as one of America’s Leading Lawyers in Chambers USA.
