Eklund Named To Three Senate Standing Committees
November 14, 2011
Senate President Tom Niehaus (R - New Richmond) today announced that State Senator John Eklund (R - Chardon) has been appointed to three senate standing committees. Last week, Eklund assumed the 18th District seat that had been vacant since early September.

The Northeast Ohio attorney and newly-appointed senator will assume a seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as the panels overseeing Highways and Transportation and State and Local Government & Veterans Affairs.

"John brings with him a wealth of legal expertise and community involvement," said Senate President Niehaus. "His insight and experience will quickly add a new and valued voice to our chamber."

In addition to representing the 18th Senate District, Eklund serves as a partner at Calfee, Halter, & Griswold in Cleveland and has been with the firm since 1980.

"I am eager to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to engage in healthy and deliberative discussions regarding the many issues facing Ohioans," Eklund said. "The concerns affecting the families of Northeast Ohio will be paramount as I begin my service in the Ohio Senate."

Eklund attended Union College and the Washington and Lee University School of Law. He resides in Chardon with his wife Meg and their two daughters.
