O'Brien Announces $200K for Trumbull County Housing Assistance
February 11, 2019
Today, state Senator Sean J. O’Brien (D-Bazetta) announced the release of $200,000 for housing assistance programs throughout Trumbull County. The funds were granted to the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and will help low-income homeowners with home repairs and renovations to improve accessibility.
“With hardships like the idling of the GM plant and the opioid crisis impacting the people of my district, it is good to see small steps like this being taken to improve the lives of people in Trumbull County,” said O’Brien. “While much more needs to be done to ensure every Ohioan has access to affordable and safe housing, the release of these funds is a step in the right direction.”
The funds were released through the Ohio Controlling Board as part of the Development Services Agency (DSA)’s Housing Assistance Grant Program. The program promotes affordable housing opportunities and improves housing conditions through emergency home repair and limited down payment assistance for low- and moderate-income citizens. The funds will be used to complete 100 units in Trumbull County.
According to Controlling Board documents, DSA received 22 Housing Assistance Grant Program applications requesting more than $6,520,000 before conducting an in-depth review to determine who would be recommended for Ohio Housing Trust Fund funding.
