Senator Sykes Encourages Akron Residents To Apply For Statehouse Fellowship Program
March 8, 2018
The Ohio Legislative Service Commission (LSC) is now accepting applications for the 2019 Legislative and Telecommunications Fellowship. The Commission will be hiring 24 fellows to serve in the Ohio General Assembly for the 13-month program.

“The LSC Fellowship provides a wonderful opportunity for college graduates to learn about the state legislative process,” said Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron). “Working at the Statehouse provides unique insight into how government works and how policy decisions are made.”

Legislative fellows placed in partisan offices will assist members with constituent work, write speeches and press releases, conduct legislative research, attend meetings and assist with other administrative duties. If placed in LSC offices, fellows will assist staff with drafting bills, conducting research and staffing committee meetings. Telecommunications fellows will be placed with Ohio Government Telecommunications/The Ohio Channel to assist staff in recording legislative sessions and producing educational communications products.

Fellows receive full State of Ohio employee benefits and are paid $31,200 per year, with the opportunity to earn a $2,000 bonus based on length of service in the program.

Legislative fellowship application materials must be postmarked on or before April 1, 2018 and telecommunications fellowship applications must be postmarked by April 30, 2018 to be considered for the program.
