Sykes Eager to Begin Work Modernizing Ohio's Voter Registration Process
April 24, 2019
Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) announced that he will be part of a bipartisan working group tasked with implementing automatic voter registration in Ohio.
“I have been a longtime advocate for taking a serious look at how Ohio can improve voter participation,” said Senator Sykes. “The Secretary of State has shown strong leadership on this issue and I am eager to work with him and my colleagues in the General Assembly to develop a 21st-century voter registration process. I believe the right people are in place to have thoughtful deliberations and ultimately work out a system that aligns with the idea that voting is a fundamental right.”
The group, which includes Senators Sykes and Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville), state Representative Bride Sweeney (D-Cleveland) and Secretary of State Frank LaRose, will work together with the goal of soon introducing legislation that modernizes Ohio’s voter registration process.
