Sykes Responds to Approval of Medicaid Work Requirements
March 15, 2019
Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statement in response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ approval of Ohio’s Medicaid work requirement waiver:

“The lack of specifics and unfunded mandates in this decision raise many questions. Will there be job training programs available and where? Will counties receive funds to administer new programs and track participants? Will people trying to enter school receive financial help? Where are the investments in public transit so people can get to and from these jobs and how much are these requirements going to cost the state when the newly uninsured get sick and have to go to the ER? All of these questions should be answered before any new requirement is enforced.”
