Senator Lou Terhar is currently serving his first term in the Ohio Senate representing the people of the 8th Senate district which includes portions of Hamilton County. He previously served three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives serving the people of the 30th House District, which includes portions of western Hamilton County. He is also currently a Managing Director of a strategic planning firm.
During his time in the Ohio House, Senator Terhar served as Chairman of the Financial Institutions and Housing and Urban Development Committee, as Vice Chair of the Economic Development Committee, as Vice Chair of the Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, as well as on a number of Committees including Public Utilities, Ways and Means, Judiciary, Finance and State Government and Redistricting. He also served as Chairman of the Veterans Caucus.
Prior to joining the General Assembly, Senator Terhar was President and Chief Executive Officer of Integris Metals, the largest distributor of stainless steel and aluminum in North America. Before joining Integris, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Motorcycle Company, a manufacturer of major cruiser motorcycles. He also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The David J. Joseph Company, one of the world’s largest ferrous and nonferrous metal recycling and trading companies, now a major division of Nucor Steel.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America and as well as a Trustee of the Altiora Fund for Cincinnati Elder High School. He is a Commander, U.S. Navy (Retired) and a Vietnam veteran.
Senator Terhar graduated from Elder High School in Cincinnati. He earned a BS degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1972, an MBA in Finance from Syracuse University and Master of Liberal Arts from Harvard University. He currently teaches at Xavier University in the Capstone Course of the Executive MBA program, where in both 2008 and 2012 he was named EMBA Professor of the year by graduate students.
Senator Terhar and his wife, Debe, have four children and six grandchildren and reside in Green Township.
