State Senator Joe Uecker (R–Miami Township) today addressed members of the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission and the Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce during the opening session of the 2013 Ohio Hispanic Legislative Day. During the session, entitled “Many Topics, One Voice,” Senator Uecker welcomed the members to the Ohio Statehouse and reminded the attendees of the important role that immigration and diversity play in making Ohio strong.
“We are a nation of immigrants,” said Uecker. “The great beauty of America lies in her diverse groups of people, which bring with them different cultures and traditions. Those differences, coupled with our common tradition of liberty and equality and our joint pursuit of happiness is what holds America together and keeps our nation strong.”
Senator Uecker added his thanks to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for their contributions to Ohio’s economy.
“Small businesses employ more than half of Ohio’s private sector workforce,” said Uecker. “The economic benefit produced by Ohio’s small businesses reaches far beyond the individual entrepreneur and plays an active role in producing a strong, healthy economy for all Ohioans.
According to the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission, the full-day event is designed to bring leaders in the Hispanic community together with their state legislators to discuss important public policy issues and to create an open dialogue regarding the challenges and opportunities of Hispanic Ohioans.
