State Senator Joe Uecker (R-Miami Township) today joined representatives from the Ohio Department of Veterans Services as well students and administrators from Southern Hills Career and Technical Center to present a mural that will go on display in the Ohio Veterans Home honoring Ohio’s wartime veterans.

Brothers Trevor and Travis Stacey, both welding students at Southern Hills, recruited the help of Senator Uecker earlier this year during a visit to the career center in hopes of finding a permanent home for the metalwork.

"I was determined to help the Stacey brothers find a home for this masterful blend of artwork and craftsmanship which honors the branches of our Armed Forces," said Uecker. "This display is a fitting tribute which embodies this community's gratitude for the brave men and women who have served our nation."

Ohio Veterans Services Director Chip Tansill and Veterans Home administrator Linda Slone worked with Senator Uecker to incorporate the piece into a new exhibit which will feature uniforms representing the four primary branches of the U.S. military.

The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, opened in 2003, offers nursing home care to Ohio military veterans. The Brown County facility is one of two homes in the state and provides varying levels of care for Ohio veterans.

Ohio is home to nearly 866,000 former U.S. service members—the sixth largest veteran population in the country.
