CLEVELAND—Today, State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) was joined by experts Dr. Jonathan Witmer-Rich – Professor of law at CSU’s Cleveland–Marshall College of Law, Attorney Greg Meyers – Ohio Public Defender’s Office Chief Counsel of Trial Division, Judge Michelle D. Earley – Cleveland Municipal Court, and Rev. C. Jay Matthews – Mt. Sinai Baptist Church to examine grand jury reform in Ohio.

COLUMBUS— State Senator Sandra Williams introduced Senate Joint Resolution 4 to amend Section 10 of Article I of the Constitution of the State of Ohio. This legislation will eliminate the grand jury process from the Constitution and will allow for the process to be reformed and reviewed by the Ohio legislature.

COLUMBUS— Yesterday, State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) introduced Senate Bill 258, which will require the Ohio Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate and bring forth charges in cases involving officer use of lethal force against an unarmed suspect. State Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D - Columbus) is cosponsoring the bill.

COLUMBUS— State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) has introduced Senate Bill 256, which would require law enforcement officers to collect data and maintain information from all motor vehicle stops, questionings, and delays to determine whether bias-based policing factored into these actions. Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) is co-sponsoring this bill.

COLUMBUS - Senator Sandra Williams sent the following letter to Governor John Kasich, requesting that funds be directed to the city of Cleveland for violence prevention in light of recent tragedies, including the shooting deaths of 3-year-old Major Howard and 5-year-old Ramon Burnett.

Columbus—Cuyahoga Community College will host State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) and other members of the Ohio Task Force on Affordability & Efficiency in Higher Education on Tuesday July 21st, at 10:00 am.  This will be the second public meeting of the Task Force on Affordability & Efficiency in Higher Education, which is led by Ohio State University’s Chief Financial Officer, Geoff Chatas.

Columbus—This week, Senator Sandra Williams (Cleveland-D) testified to the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission (OCMC) regarding possible reforms to the Ohio indictment process and the abolishment of grand jury procedure.

COLUMBUS—State Senator Sandra Williams testified in the Senate Transportation, Commerce and Labor committee on Senate Bill 81, legislation that would create a license plate honoring women veterans. The Senator was approached by the Women Veterans Advisory Committee earlier this year and asked to sponsor a bill that would recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by women in our U.S armed forces.
