December 19, 2018
Today, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus voted on and announced caucus leadership for the 133rd General Assembly, beginning in January 2019. The Caucus voted to re-elect state Senator Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) as Minority Leader.
“I am humbled by the continued support of my colleagues and thank them for the opportunity to serve as Leader,” said Senator Yuko. “I am eager to continue our work on policies that give all Ohioans a fair shot at the American Dream, like increasing the minimum wage, providing our kids with a high-quality education, fighting the opioid epidemic and curbing gun violence.”
State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati), who currently serves as Assistant Minority Whip, was elected Assistant Minority Leader.
“It’s a privilege to serve on our caucus leadership team and I’m honored to continue as the Assistant Minority Leader,” said Senator Thomas. “You can count on Senate Democrats to keep fighting for policies that look out for Ohioans’ best interests, address the needs of our many diverse communities and put people first.”
State Senator Sean J. O’Brien (D-Bazetta) was selected to serve as Minority Whip.
“I’m honored and humbled by the support of my colleagues,” said Senator O’Brien. “There are a lot of things I want to accomplish in the next General Assembly to help the people of my district and the rest of Ohio. Too many small communities in Ohio have been forgotten and I look forward to giving them a voice within my caucus and within the Ohio Senate."
Completing the 133rd General Assembly minority leadership team is state Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland), who will serve as Assistant Minority Whip.
“I’m honored to receive the vote of my colleagues and look forward to serving them as the Assistant Minority Whip,” said Senator Williams. “There’s a lot to do in the next two years, and I am ready to work to get policy passed for the betterment of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and all of Ohio.”
