Senator Shannon Jones

7th Senate District
Senator Shannon Jones

State Senator Shannon Jones is currently serving her first term in the Ohio Senate and represents the 7th Senate District, which includes all of Warren County and portions of Hamilton County. Shannon previously served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009, where she hit the ground running, earning key leadership posts and a seat at the table on issues of importance to her constituents.

For the 127th General Assembly, Shannon was elected as the House Assistant Majority Whip. She played a critical role in the development of the state energy bill last year, fighting to keep energy costs in check for Ohio families and businesses and served as the House’s point person on Medicaid. A fiscal conservative, Jones believes Medicaid costs must be contained not only to ensure the long-term stability of the program but also to avoid a future tax increase.

In response to the Joe the Plumber scandal in which public officials accessed the records of a private citizen for political purposes, Jones sponsored and passed the new state law to ensure the private information held by state government agencies is better protected. Jones also worked closely with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital as the primary sponsor of legislation, now law, which requires children between the ages of 4-8 and under 4’9’’ to be properly restrained in a booster seat to prevent fatal injuries.

For the 128th General Assembly and consistent with the priority she’s placed on revitalizing the state economy and creating jobs, Jones has been appointed Vice Chair of the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee and as a member of the Insurance, Commerce and Labor, Government Oversight and Health, Human Services and Aging committees. In addition, Senator Jones will represent the Senate as a member of the Unified Long-Term Care Budget Workgroup – a 28-member panel that has been tasked with creating a plan to create a long-term health care system that is cost-effective, efficient and allows consumers to choose the services that best fit their needs.

Prior to running for elective office, Shannon Jones worked behind the scenes and on behalf of the residents of southwestern Ohio, as chief of staff for former Congressman Steve Chabot, a regional representative for then-State Treasurer Joe Deters and as a district director for former U.S. Senator Mike DeWine. She has also been active in local politics, holding leadership positions in the Hamilton County Republican Party and on the congressional campaigns of Mike Turner and Steve Chabot.

In her community Jones is active in the Springboro Area Chamber of Commerce and the Warren County Farm Bureau. She is a graduate of Leadership Warren County and served on the board of Talbert House, a mental health, community corrections and substance abuse non-profit.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Shannon and her husband of 15 years, Russell, live in Springboro where they are raising their two children, Jacob and Anna. The Joneses are members of Saint Mary’s Parish in Franklin.
