Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) was elected to serve Lakewood, Cleveland and Ohio's 23rd Senate District in November, 2010. He comes from the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served four terms as the Representative for Ohio's 13th House District. After graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business and political science from Walsh College, Skindell earned his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He represented the people of Lakewood as a Councilman at Large between 1998 and 2002.

12.10.14 - Ohio Senate Passes Legislation To Honor Fallen Hero From Cleveland

 

Columbus – Today, the Ohio Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 352, a highway-naming bill to honor fallen heroes from across the state including Army Specialist Angel L. Lopez of Cleveland.  At the request of Senator Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) and Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville), the bill was amended to designate a portion of Interstate 71 within the corporation limits of Cleveland as the “Specialist Angel L. Lopez Memorial Highway.”

12.10.14 - Companion Pets To Be Protected In Civil Protection Orders

 

Columbus—A bill to empower domestic abuse victims to seek safety from volatile environments without worrying about the well-being of their pets will now go to the governor to be signed into law after passing the Ohio House yesterday.  Senate bill 177, sponsored by Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood), allows judges to authorize the protection of companion animals in temporary protection orders, domestic violence protection orders, anti-stalking protection orders, and related protection orders. 

 
 

06.17.14 - Legislation Sponsored By Senator Skindell Signed Into Law Protecting Ohio's Disabled From Abuse And Neglect

 

Legislation sponsored by Senator Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood), was recently signed into law as a part of House Bill 483 to protect Ohio's disabled population from abuse and neglect.

Senate Bill 207 allows disabled Ohioans and their families to review inspection and compliance reports for service providers online. 

A 2013 three-part investigative series by Ron Regan of WEWS in Cleveland prompted Senator Skindell to introduce the legislation in late January.
