State Senator Steve Buehrer represents the 1st Senate District, which includes Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, Williams and parts of Auglaize County. Before being elected to the Senate in 2007, he served four terms as the State Representative for the 82nd Ohio House District. A sixth generation resident of Northwest Ohio, Steve has often said that the area is the true heart of Ohio—a place recognized for its strong communities, work ethic and commitment to family. Throughout his tenure in the Legislature, he has fought to protect these values and support efforts to make the region stronger.

Buehrer announces release of state grant to support expansion of Silgan Plastics in Ottawa
Columbus - State Senator Steve Buehrer announced today that the state Controlling Board approved the release of a $75,000 state grant to help Silgan Plastics Corporation purchase new machinery and equipment as part of the company's planned expansion in the Village of Ottawa. The project is expected to create 30 full-time jobs and retain more than 200 positions in the area.

Columbus - State Senator Steve Buehrer announced today that the state Controlling Board approved the release of a $20,000 state grant to help Nissin Brake purchase new machinery and equipment as part of the company's planned expansion in Findlay. Buehrer appointed to War of 1812 Commission
Columbus - State Senator Steve Buehrer was recently appointed by Senate President Bill Harris to serve on the Ohio War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, a panel of legislators, historians and other state and local leaders charged with raising public awareness about Ohio's important role in the war and helping preserve and promote historic sites across the state. Senator Buehrer worked to create the commission through passage of Senate Bill 93 in November 2009 after being approached with the idea by a group of professors, historians and other community leaders from Northwest Ohio.

Buehrer wins Senate support for bill to ban unethical animal-human hybrid experiments in Ohio
Columbus - State Senator Steve Buehrer won bipartisan support in the Ohio Senate today for Senate Bill 243, legislation that would prohibit the mixing of human cells and animal cells to create animal-human hybrids in Ohio. Senator Buehrer introduced the bill in March after learning of attempts by scientists in other states and some European countries to use the eggs of mice, rabbits, cows and other animals to make human clones.
