Senator Sue Morano represents the 13th Ohio Senate District encompassing Lorain, Huron and part of Seneca counties. She is the first woman to represent the 13th District and the only registered nurse currently serving in the General Assembly. Senator Morano graduated from Lorain County Community College with a nursing degree. She still works part time in the intensive care unit at the Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain.

Senator Morano Calls for Medicaid Extension
Columbus - State Senator Sue Morano and Progress Ohio urged members of Congress to support a six month extension of the current enhanced rate used to reimburse states for Medicaid.  Without the extension, the State of Ohio will be forced to make cuts to Medicaid services.

Senator Morano Presents Senator Sue Morano Scholarship to Nursing Student

Columbus – Last week Senator Sue Morano presented the first ever Senator Sue Morano Scholarship at the Ohio Nurses Foundation 9th Annual Nurses Choice Awards and Scholarship Luncheon. The $500 scholarship goes to a Registered Nurse who is returning to school for an advanced degree in order to teach Ohio’s next generation of nurses. This year, the scholarship was presented to Christine Pavlick, a Registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Senator Morano Chairs Nurse Staffing Workgroup
Columbus – Senator Sue Morano has been named the chairperson of the Nurse Staffing Workgroup, which met for the first time yesterday. A subcommittee of the Hospital Measures Advisory Council (HMAC), the Nurse Staffing Workgroup will provide recommendations to the Ohio Department of Health and HMAC regarding nurse staffing measures.

Governor Signs Senator Morano's Nursing Education Bill

Columbus - Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed into law Senator Sue Morano's Comprehensive Nursing Education Bill.  Senate Bill 89 addresses a critical shortage in nursing educators that has forced nursing schools in Ohio and across the nation to turn away qualified applicants.

Senator Morano Introduces Wage Protection Act
Columbus – On Thursday, November 19, Senator Sue Morano (D-Lorain) held a press conference at the Ohio Statehouse, addressing the problem of wage theft in Ohio. Members of the labor and religious communities joined Senator Morano at the conference. November 19th is the National Day of Action to Stop Wage Theft.

“Wage theft is a very real problem across the nation and here in Ohio,” said Senator Morano. “Too many hard working Ohioans are being cheated out of the wages they’ve earned. This legislation affirms Ohio’s commitment to protecting workers.”

Senate Passes Senator Morano's Turfgrass Bill
Columbus - The Ohio Senate voted unanimously to pass SB 51, a bill sponsored by Senator Sue Morano that calls attention to a growing industry in Ohio.  SB 51 designates the last week in May as "Ohio Turfgrass Week."  This is the second bill introduced by Senator Morano that has passed the Senate this year with unanimous bipartisan support.
