Senator Teresa Fedor

11th Senate District
Senator Teresa Fedor

Senator Teresa Fedor is currently serving in her second term in the Ohio Senate representing the 11th Senate District. The 11th District is located in Northwest Ohio and encompasses the greater part of the City of Toledo, all of the City of Oregon and portions of Sylvania and Jefferson Townships.

In 2000, Fedor pursued her passion for public service and was elected to serve the 52nd district in the Ohio House of Representatives. Since joining the General Assembly, Senator Fedor has worked to improve the educational opportunities for our children, provide new economic opportunities for Ohio’s economy, connect & improve services for veterans, increase accessibility to children’s health insurance, and to criminalize human trafficking. Most recently, Senator Fedor’s Human Trafficking legislation was signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland. The legislation created a Trafficking in Persons Study Commission of which she will be an instrumental part.

Senator Fedor currently serves as the Ranking member on the Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee. Senator Fedor also serves on the Finance Committee as part of the Highways and Transportation Committee, as well as the Education and Government Oversight Committee. Senator Fedor previously served leadership positions in the Senate as Minority Leader, Minority Whip and Assistant Minority Whip.

Through out her 8-year legislative career, Teresa Fedor has championed responsive and responsible government. During her recent years in the Senate, she has helped to unveil the Bureau of Workers Compensation coin scandal, made certain that Ohio’s voting machines leave a paper tail, and worked collaboratively with the majority and the governor during the last two budgets.

As a Member of the Ohio House, Fedor served as Ranking Minority member on the Senate Education Committee. She sponsored several pieces of legislation benefiting women and children, among which included mandatory health care coverage for women’s contraception.

As a member of the House Finance Committee, Fedor fought against drastic budget cuts to higher education. While serving as ranking minority member of the Energy and Environment Committee, she was instrumental in drafting important guidelines for the Clean Ohio Fund, a blueprint for local governments to restore abandoned industrial sites known as brownfields; and to provide for the development of greenspace, farmland preservation, biking and hiking trails, and stream protection. Fedor’s efforts will positively link environmental protection with future economic growth.

The Second Harvest Food Banks named Senator Fedor “Legislator of the Year” in 2002 for her work in assuring that necessary funding levels were met to keep the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) alive. Senator Fedor was also recognized in 2003 by the American Cancer Society – Ohio Chapter – for her work on SB 81, legislation that created physical education standards in Ohio’s schools.
