Senator Tim Grendell

A Cleveland area native, State Senator Tim Grendell has represented Ohio’s 18th Senate District since 2004. Equally as diverse as the region he represents, which includes all of Lake and Geauga Counties, and the eastern portion of Cuyahoga County, Senator Grendell’s legislative priorities have included a wide range of issues such as securing bonuses for returning soldiers and strengthening pharmacy technician standards throughout Ohio.

Currently serving his second term in the Ohio Senate, Senator Grendell is the Chair of the Senate Judiciary – Criminal Justice Committee. He also serves as a member of the Agriculture Committee, Environmental and Natural Resources Committee, Government Oversight Committee, Judiciary – Civil Justice Committee, as well as the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee. Senator Grendell is also a member of the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR). Prior to being elected to the Senate, Grendell served two terms as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Senator Grendell received his JD from Case Western Reserve School of Law and his LLM from the University of Virginia Law School. He was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in History from John Carroll University and graduated from St. Ignatius High School.

Major legislative accomplishments of Senator Grendell include medical malpractice tort reform, companion animal cruelty legislation, sex offender registration and notification laws, and comprehensive eminent domain reform. He recently passed legislation that will toughen Ohio’s drunken driving laws to require repeat offenders to utilize technology to keep them from driving while intoxicated. Senator Grendell also worked to protect private property owners after a US Supreme Court decision, in the case of Kelo v New London, expanded the acceptable use of eminent domain.

Senator Grendell has also received several high honors and awards, including Watchdog of Treasury, Who's Who in American Law (2nd Edition), Outstanding Young Men in America (1980), Meritorious Service Medals - U.S. Army.

Senator Grendell resides in rural Geauga County with his wife, Judge Diane Grendell of the 11th District Court of Appeals. He and his wife Diane have two children: Kate and James.
