A lifelong resident of Central Ohio, State Senator Tim Schaffer has spent the last decade serving the public in the Ohio General Assembly. Senator Schaffer began his service after being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000. Then in 2006, after serving three terms as a State Representative for Ohio’s 5th House District, Senator Schaffer was elected to the Ohio Senate, representing the 31st Senate District, which includes all of Fairfield, Licking, Hocking and Perry Counties, as well as the eastern portion of Pickaway County.

Schaffer bill extends relief to disabled veterans
COLUMBUS - State Senator Tim Schaffer today provided testimony in Senate Bill 236.  The legislation will provide full property tax relief to Ohio's disabled veterans.  The bill is currently being heard before the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

Schaffer eyes drug testing for public assistance applicants
COLUMBUS - State Senator Tim Schaffer provided sponsor testimony today on his legislation to establish a drug testing pilot program for Ohio Works First (OWF), the state's cash assistance program.  The bill received its first hearing in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

Thanking those that serve
Beginning in 1919, November 11 has been reserved to honor the service of those who defend America’s liberty.  Originally dubbed “Armistice Day”, our first observance of Veterans Day was aimed at celebrating the one year anniversary of World War I reaching its end.  Nearly one hundred years removed from that first celebration, we remain blessed to live in a country where so many of our men and women have answered the call to duty.

Restoring responsible government: Budget in review
Columbus - I am happy to report that members of the Senate recently wrapped up work on a three-and-a-half month budget process that culminated with passage of a balanced, two-year plan that reduces spending, maintains the tax cuts I've fought for throughout my tenure in the general assembly, and eliminates an $8 billion shortfall. A comprehensive effort toward bringing recovery, relief and reform to Ohio, the provisions contained in this bill will go a long way in ensuring that Ohioans keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

Schaffer commends state champion Kidder at statehouse

Columbus - On Tuesday, State Senator Tim Schaffer hosted Lancaster track star Brannon Kidder at the Ohio Statehouse. Kidder opened the month of June by winning the Division I State Track Championship in the 1600 meters and continued his winning ways less than two weeks later when he topped the competition at the Midwest Distance Gala in Lisle, Illinois.

Columbus - State Senator Tim Schaffer today introduced Senate Bill 4, which requires the Auditor of State to conduct performance audits of state agencies. Auditor of State Dave Yost pledged his full support for the bill. Senate Bill 4 will be one of the Senate's priority bills for this session.

Columbus - Senator Tim Schaffer today announced the availability of 260 scholarships worth more than $1,000,000 to attend one of Ohio's career colleges or schools.  Available scholarships may be one-half tuition or specific amount programs.
