31st Senate District

A lifelong resident of Central Ohio, State Senator Tim Schaffer has spent the last eight years dedicated to serving the public in the Ohio General Assembly. Senator Schaffer began his service after being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000. Then in 2006, after serving three terms as a State Representative for Ohio’s 5th House District, Senator Schaffer was elected to the Ohio Senate, representing the 31st Senate District, which includes all of Fairfield, Licking, Hocking and Perry Counties, as well as the eastern portion of Pickaway County.
Throughout his tenure in public office, Senator Schaffer has worked tirelessly to fight government corruption, reduce taxes and protect our children from sexual predators. Additionally, Senator Schaffer has worked to bring numerous economic development projects to his district, leading to the creation of hundreds of new job opportunities.
Senator Schaffer is also recognized as a leader in the Ohio Senate and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, which is focused on finding the right balance between making sure that Ohio has clean air, clean water and maintains its abundant natural resources, while also ensuring state environmental regulations do not overburden those who create jobs for Ohio families. Additionally, Senator Schaffer is committed to keeping energy prices and taxes in-check, maintaining a strong infrastructure and ensuring state labor polices encourage, rather than hinder jobs, as Vice Chairman of the Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee and a member of the Highways and Transportation Committee, the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee and the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee.
Senator Schaffer holds a B.A. in Political Science and Communications from Mount Union College. In addition to his legislative duties, his private sector career is as an association executive with the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, the American Diabetes Association and the Ohio Grocers Association. Schaffer also served as the former chairman of the Fairfield County Republican Party.
Various awards and honors include Watchdog of the Treasury Award, Ohio Development Association Distinguished Service Award, Ohio’s Biotechnology Industry Representative of the Year, National Federation of the Blind Distinguished Service Award, MS Society of America Advocate of the Year, Business First 40 under 40 and the Fairfield County Republican Party Statesmanship Award.
Senator Schaffer resides in Lancaster with his wife Lori.
