Senator Hoagland served as a Navy SEAL for 30 years in combat zones including the International War on Terrorism and the War on Drugs in South America.

Senator Hoagland is a small business owner focused on helping local schools, businesses and law enforcement agencies develop emergency situation preparation and response procedures.

Senator Hoagland is married to his high school sweetheart Darla, and they live in Adena where they raised their family.
