Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) issued the following statement in response to the Ohio Department of Medicaid’s decision to fire the pharmacy middlemen that have made $223.7 million by billing taxpayers more than they reimbursed pharmacists for filling prescriptions:
“Firing these pharmacy middlemen is the right thing to do. They’ve overcharged the state hundreds of millions of dollars to pad their bottom line and there is no justification for that abuse of public funds. Taxpayers deserve better and so do the patients we serve.
“Now lawmakers and the Department of Medicaid need to work together to protect taxpayer dollars, ensure Ohioans are getting prescriptions at fair prices and bring transparency to Ohio’s Medicaid program.”
