Ohio Senate Dems Call on Governor to Remove Susan Block from Ohio Arts Council
January 8, 2021
Today, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine urging him to remove Susan Block from the board of the Ohio Arts Council following her incendiary comments on social media regarding the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol this week.

“Her message defies the Ohio Arts Council’s mission of strengthening Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically, and is unbecoming of any appointee of the State of Ohio,” the letter says. “We do not believe her leadership is conducive to transforming people and communities in a positive way and feel her reprehensible statement makes her unable to make unbiased decisions regarding arts funding.”

The letter comes in response to a Facebook comment made by Block, whose family also owns The Toledo Blade and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, that support President Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election results and degrades President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

“Given our role in approving these appointments, we feel it is also our responsibility to call for their removal when individuals are no longer capable of fulfilling the duties of their position or representing Ohio’s best interest,” they said.
