Craig Commends Passage of Transportation Budget
March 24, 2021
Today, Assistant Minority Whip Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of House Bill 74, the state’s two-year transportation budget.
“This pandemic has devastated so many families, workers, and businesses across Ohio,” said Craig. “I am thrilled that the Senate restored the public transit funding to pre-pandemic levels to help workers get to work, children get to school, and families get to the store or to medical appointments. This budget will provide the vital assistance to ensure safe and secure transit for all Ohioans.”
H. B. 74 includes $5.89 billion for the biennium to fix Ohio’s roads and bridges, $70 million per year for public transportation as well as $8 million for Electric Vehicle charging stations.
It also requires the Ohio Department of Transportation to have a policy to make the purchase and replacement of rail lines used for public passenger transportation eligible for funding, subject to approval by the Transportation Review Advisory Council.
