Today, state Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) released the following statement after the Ohio Supreme Court on Monday invalidated the new state legislative maps adopted by the Republican members of the Ohio Redistricting Commission on January 22. The Court gave the commission until February 17 to draw new, constitutional maps:
“Once again, the Court has ruled on behalf of all Ohioans who demanded an end to gerrymandering in 2015. It is a shame that the Republican members of the Ohio Redistricting Commission have refused to accept the Court’s first decision and continue to pass maps that unfairly favor their own party and disregard the wishes of over 70% of voters. In doing so, they’ve broken their oath to abide by the Ohio Constitution. It is time for the Republicans to finally own up to their actions and do right by the people of Ohio. I urge Republicans to not waste any more time and work with Democrats to adopt fair, 10-year maps.”
