Former State Representative Bob Hackett (R-London) took the oath of office today to fill a vacancy in Ohio's 10th Senate District, encompassing all of Clark, Greene and Madison counties.

The Senate's majority Republican caucus voted unanimously to approve a screening committee recommendation, following interviews with two applicants seeking to fill the vacancy stemming from the retirement of State Senator Chris Widener. The committee unanimously voted to recommend Hackett for appointment to the seat, and the 23-member Senate Republican Caucus met today to accept the screening committee’s recommendation and seat Hackett as its newest member.

“Bob has the experience and depth of knowledge to be an effective state senator on day one,” said Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina). “Bob's record of leadership and accomplishment in the Ohio House make him an excellent choice to fill this vacancy. He knows the district and the issues important to its constituents. I’m confident Bob will be an outstanding advocate for the 10th District, and we also look forward to ensuring his election to a full, four-year term in November.”

Hackett will serve for the remainder of the current term, ending in December. The seat stands for election in November, and the winner of that election will serve a full, four-year term beginning in January 2017.

"I'm grateful for the trust the people of the 74th House District placed in me the last seven years and look forward to using my experience to work alongside my new colleagues in the Senate."

Hackett has served the 74th House District since 2009. He served as Chairman of the House Insurance Committee during the 131st General Assembly. Prior to joining the legislature Hackett served as Madison County Commissioner from 2001-2008. He and his wife Sue reside in London, Ohio.
