Maharath Applauds Passage of House Bill 95
April 21, 2022

Today, state Senator Tina Maharath (D-Canal Winchester) issued the following statement in support of Governor DeWine signing House Bill 95, which authorizes a non-refundable income tax credit for beginning farmers. The bill, which was sponsored by Representatives Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield) and Mary Lightbody (D-Westerville), was amended by Sen. Maharath to provide a 12-month period for a municipal corporation which acquired property from the State of Ohio in 2020 to apply for abatement of unpaid taxes, penalties and interest on the property and for the property to be placed on the tax-exempt list.

“This amendment will help ensure that local communities are not held responsible for technical mistakes made by the state,” Sen. Maharath said. “I am pleased that the General Assembly and Governor DeWine have ensured that Ohioans will receive this crucial support. I would also like to thank the Franklin County Auditor’s Office and the Village of Lockbourne for raising this issue, and the Senate Ways and Means Committee for accepting this amendment.”
