PPG Industries hosted State Representative Gary Scherer and State Senator Bob Peterson on Thursday for an informational PowerPoint and tour of the facility.

For about an hour, Dave Moss, plant manager at PPG in Circleville, discussed some of the applications for the products they make and how the company has shifted its focus in recent years, as well as employment and safety numbers.

Following the presentation, Moss took Scherer and Peterson around the facility and showed off some of the labs and the chemical reactors where the products are made.

Scherer said he was impressed with the scope of the operation.

“I’ve lived in this community since three years after this plant was built, and I’ve never been here before,” he said. “It was a real treat to be able to see it, and I had no clue the number of products that they have. I’m amazed at the volume of what they do, the breadth of what they do and the number of people they employ. I had no idea they were as big of an employer for the community as they are.”

Peterson said PPG’s success is something that other companies could follow to find their own success.

“I am constantly amazed at the industry of Ohio manufacturing and how they can take raw materials and manufacture things with them,” Peterson said. “PPG Industries is another example of that, and what’s important is the 180 jobs and what they are adding to the Ohio economy and how we can help [businesses] grow more jobs here in Circleville and in southwest Ohio.”

Moss said it was important to let Scherer and Peterson know what’s important to PPG, what it produces and its impact on the community.

“Even though Representative Scherer and Senator Peterson represent the other side of [U.S. Route] 23, they’re close enough that I consider them to be people that PPG can go to with issues at the state, and that they will represent us,” Moss said. “We’re a long-time member of this community, and we want to be good citizens of it.”
