Senator Yuko Comments on House Bill to Legalize Medical Marijuana
April 13, 2016

COLUMBUS—Today, State Senator Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) expressed support for the Ohio House of Representatives for introducing legislation that would legalize marijuana for medicinal use.

“As a long-time advocate for this issue, it is a great victory to see the General Assembly take a crucial step towards the ultimate goal – getting this medication into the hands of the patients who so desperately need it,” said Senator Yuko. “It is rare that both branches of state government have an opportunity to help so many people improve their quality of life in such a cohesive, bipartisan manner.”

In the last few months, members of both the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives have listened to public testimony to learn about the ways marijuana can be used to successfully treat many debilitating illnesses, as well as its efficacy in managing a variety of severe symptoms. Senator Yuko traveled the state with Senator Dave Burke (R-Marysville) and held town halls on this issue. They heard many stories about the unique and highly positive impact that medical marijuana legalization could have for the people of Ohio.

“I applaud the efforts of the entire General Assembly to learn about this critical issue that affects so many Ohioans today,” said Senator Yuko. “I will continue working with my colleagues in both the House and the Senate to create the most effective, patient-centered legislation possible.”

Senator Yuko first introduced legislation to legalize marijuana for medicinal use in the 128th General Assembly during his time as a State Representative.
