WILMINGTON, Ohio—This evening, State Senator Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) issued the following statement in reaction to Governor Kasich’s annual State of the State address in Wilmington:
“Tonight, the Governor made clear that he will continue his push for tax policies that simply shift the tax burden on Ohio’s hardworking families rather than investing in our communities. With a small increase to the Local Government Fund, our communities will continue to struggle to provide even some of the most basic services.
“Our caucus remains committed to improving the quality of life for middle and low-income Ohioans with opportunities that lead to better-paying jobs such as raising the minimum wage. We are also committed to ensuring that every child in Ohio receives a quality education. Unfortunately, the Governor’s near $1 billion investment into underperforming charter schools undermines this idea.
“Nonetheless, as legislators, we have a chance to do a lot of great things for Ohioans and I look forward to working with my colleagues as we dive into the state’s operating budget.”
