Yuko: Legal Uncertainty Around Private School Vouchers Underscores Need for Immediate Action
February 3, 2020
Today, Citizens for Community Values announced that they filed a lawsuit with the Ohio Supreme Court to immediately open applications for the EdChoice private school voucher program. The legislature recently voted to delay the application process until April 1, as it continues to assess eligibility standards.

Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) issued the following statement in response:

“The legislature’s intent was clear. We are delaying the application process to come up with a solution that protects our public schools and provides clarity to families in Ohio, rather than letting the private school voucher system balloon even further.

“This lawsuit underscores the confusion that private school vouchers have caused our school districts, families and students. The legislature should find a resolution as soon as possible and not wait until the new deadline of April 1. Senate Democrats are ready to get this done.”
