COLUMBUS—State Senator John Eklund (R-Munson Township) today applauded the announcement that Lake and Geauga counties will receive funding for boating safety education from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Two area parks, Lake Metroparks in Lake County and Camp Ho Mita Koda in Newbury Township, will receive funding, totaling more than $17,500.
"Education is key to preventing boating accidents and keeping Ohioans safe on our waterways," said Eklund. "I appreciate our local parks' commitment to safe and fun experiences while Ohioans enjoy all they have to offer."
The Boating Safety Education Grants are individual grant awards provided by ODNR’s Division of Parks and Watercraft. The grants are funded by Ohio’s recreational boaters through the Waterways Safety Fund, which is comprised of a share of the state motor fuel tax, watercraft registration and titling fees, and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
