COLUMBUS — State Senator John Eklund has been appointed to the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee (CIIC) by Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina). Comprised of legislators from both the Senate and the Ohio House, CIIC is responsible for inspecting and evaluating each state correctional institution, private correctional facility and youth services facility once during the biennium and reporting its findings to the Legislature.
Eklund joins Senator Cliff Hite (R- Findlay), Edna Brown (D- Toledo) and Shirley Smith (D- Cleveland) as members of the Committee, which also assists in the development of programs to help improve the conditions or operations at correctional facilities.
“Our correctional facilities not only keep our communities safe from violent criminals, they also serve an important role in rehabilitating lower-level offenders into contributing members of our society,” Eklund said. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to ensure that our corrections system is operating as safely and efficiently as possible, both for inmates and the officers that maintain order.”
