Senate Approves Bipartisan Initiative to Name March as "Ohio Maple Syrup Products Month"
May 28, 2014

The Senate today approved Senate Bill 272, jointly sponsored by Senators John Eklund (R–Munson Township) and Capri Cafaro (D-Hubbard), which would designate March as “Ohio Maple Syrup Products Month.” This legislation intends to recognize Ohio for its rich maple syrup history dating back to the early Native Americans.

"Ohio is one of the top five maple producing states in the country. Last year, the 100,000 gallons of maple syrup produced in Ohio contributed $5 million to our state’s economy. This legislation will raise awareness of Ohio’s maple syrup industry and ensure that producers are recognized for their delicious products and their contributions to our state,” said Eklund.

The legislation will now proceed to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
