Last week, state Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) presented two teachers from Oregon City Schools with a resolution honoring Teacher Appreciation Day during Senate session.
“While this resolution only recognizes Teacher Appreciation Day, I believe teachers deserve appreciation every day for the tremendous work they do to educate our children,” Fedor said. “We sent out a survey in my district asking people to nominate outstanding local teachers. Kimberly and Dave were two of the many wonderful nominations we received.”
The Senate District 11 Teacher Appreciation Month nominations gave Toledo residents the opportunity to nominate an outstanding teacher who goes above and beyond for their students. Dave Shaffer, an automotive instructor at Clay High School and the former president of the Oregon City Federation of Teachers, was chosen by his students because of his work ethic, dedication and experience. Kimberly Amstutz, a biology teacher at Clay High School, was also nominated by a student who highlighted her accessibility and sense of humor.
“In addition to Dave and Kimberly, we have thousands of remarkable teachers here in Ohio worth recognizing. The Covid-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on just how important and exceptional teachers are during challenging times,” Fedor said. “We all owe our success to the teachers who shaped, supported and encouraged us.”
