Today, Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio’s two-year budget bill, after making 25 line-item vetoes
. State Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) released the following statement addressing the governor’s education-related vetoes:
“I appreciate Governor DeWine’s vetoes today, especially his action to ensure all of Ohio’s teachers are properly certified and licensed by the Ohio Department of Education. All of our children deserve to learn from trained, professional educators.
“Now that the budget is passed, it is time to get to work. We have one year to address Ohio’s failed education accountability system. Our current patchwork – constantly reforming the reforms – is not working for our students, educators or communities. Comprehensive, collaborative and bipartisan reform is the only way we can create long-term, sustainable solutions. I look forward to working with our school districts, my fellow lawmakers and the governor to ensure a strong public education system.”
