Hoagland Effort to Secure Disaster Relief Funding for Southeast Ohio Signed by Governor
COLUMBUS - On Wednesday, Governor Kasich signed Senate Bill 299 into law, which included an amendment championed by State Senator Frank Hoagland
(R-Mingo Junction) to secure critical state disaster relief funding for 18 southeast Ohio counties affected by severe flooding in February of this year.
An additional $7.165 million in state funds will cover any required local government cost necessary for the state to receive funding through Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).
"I am thankful for the swift action of Senate President Larry Obhof and other state and local leaders who helped move this effort through the legislature," said Hoagland. "Over the course of the last few months I have witnessed the devastation these storms have had on our roads and bridges, and it's been a priority of mine to help make Ohio's roadways safer for the traveling public."
Additionally, this week Hoagland announced controlling board approval of $215,553 for road improvements in support of JSW Steel USA's expansion in Mingo Junction, Ohio.
The roadwork will consist of the reconstruction of a portion of Commercial Avenue. Reconstruction will begin at the entrance of the Mingo water treatment plant continuing north to the entrance of Acero Junction, Inc., where the new JSW Plant will be located.
"This investment is vital to support the 300 jobs coming to our part of the state," said Hoagland. "It will continue the trajectory of bringing viability to communities and businesses in southeast Ohio and help improve the quality of life for Ohioans living and working here."
