COLUMBUS—The Honorable Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor of the Ohio Supreme Court today administered the oath of office for State Senator Frank Hoagland (R-Mingo Junction), marking the beginning of his first four-year term in the Ohio Senate. Today's opening ceremonies also served as the official start of the 132nd Ohio General Assembly.
"I'm truly honored by this opportunity to serve the people of southeastern and eastern Ohio," said Hoagland. "Alongside my colleagues, I look forward to serving my constituents and doing what's right for all Ohioans."
Senator Hoagland volunteered for the Navy just two weeks after graduating from Buckeye North High School in Jefferson County. He quickly signed up for Navy SEAL BUDS training, following in the special forces footsteps of his father who had served as an Army Green Beret.
For nearly 30 years, he served our nation in combat zones, including in the International War on Terrorism and the War on Drugs in South America. Hoagland credits his Navy SEAL training for instilling his commitment to serving others.
After retiring from active duty military service in 2011, Hoagland returned home to eastern Ohio where he founded his own small business specializing in emergency situation preparation and emergency response procedures for local school districts, businesses and law enforcement agencies.
Senator Hoagland is married to his high school sweetheart, Darla, and is the proud father of two grown children.
