Hottinger Announces Aid for Emergency Sinkhole Repair in Perry County
June 11, 2018
Columbus – State Senator Jay Hottinger (R-Newark) today announced Controlling Board approval to release $117,438 for an emergency sinkhole repair on a foreclosed property in Bearfield Township, Perry County.

“It is encouraging to see collaboration between state and local governments to solve this urgent problem,” said Hottinger. “If we delay in fixing this dangerous sinkhole, it is likely the problem will become even worse and more costly as time passes.”

The sinkhole, measuring 50 feet wide by 40 feet deep, occurred on June 2 near the intersection of Bearfield Township road 423 and County Road 12 in Bearfield Township above an abandoned rail line. Damage from the sinkhole included a broken water line that provides 147 homes drinking water, which was subsequently repaired.

The project will be funded utilizing 75 percent state and 25 percent local dollars.
