COLUMBUS— On Wednesday, the Senate passed House Bill 24, which included an amendment submitted by State Senator Jay Hottinger (R-Newark) to secure funding for the development of a Boys and Girls Club in Newark, Ohio.
"As a parent, I know how important after-school and summer opportunities are for the academic and social development of our youth," said Senator Hottinger. "I am pleased our state could partner in this effort that is sure to positively effect thousands of at risk youth in Newark and Licking County."
The amendment would appropriate $750,000 for the program development and renovations to the site. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark is expected to open in 2019.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus is a nonprofit organization providing comprehensive, affordable after-school and summer programming for youth, ages 6 through 18.
