COLUMBUS- State Senator Jay Hottinger (R- Newark) today welcomed James "Buster" Douglas to the Ohio Statehouse to honor him for his 30 year anniversary of defeating the legendary boxer Mike Tyson.
On February 11, 1990, James "Buster" Douglas won the undisputed heavyweight title against undefeated Mike Tyson, known as the best boxer in the world. Douglas won the fight as a 42-to-1 underdog.
Senator Hottinger sponsored Senate Concurrent Resolution 4, which would designate February 11, 2020 as James Buster Douglas 42:1 Odds Day, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Douglas’ upset over Tyson, at 42:1 odds.
"This concurrent resolution recognizes the anniversary of Buster's historic upset, but it also serves as an opportunity to celebrate the success of all who overcome incredible odds every day and give hope to anyone who might be struggling," said Senator Hottinger.
