Today, state Senator Tina Maharath (D-Canal Winchester) applauded the unanimous Senate passage of House Bill 170, which provides $787 million in federal money to Ohio’s K-12 schools to help provide safe learning opportunities during the pandemic and make up for lost learning time.
“I am pleased that the Ohio Senate has ensured that these crucial dollars reach our schools during this historically difficult time,” said Maharath. “This money will help our schools continue to be safe and support children as they catch up for the time they have missed because of the pandemic.”
The bill also provides $173 million to the Department of Health to expand testing and provide epidemiologic support and $7 million to the Adjutant General for duties performed by the National Guard during the pandemic.
The bill now goes to the House for concurrence before going to Governor Mike DeWine for his signature.
