Maharath Commends Passage of Coronavirus Relief Bills
May 6, 2021
Today, Senate Minority Whip Tina Maharath (D-Canal Winchester) commended the Ohio Senate’s concurrence of House amendments to Senate Bills 108 and 109. These two bills collectively allocate $682 million of federal relief dollars to Ohio bars, restaurants, hotels, small businesses, childcare providers, food banks and more that have struggled through the pandemic.
“Small businesses and organizations across Ohio and the country have been ravaged by the pandemic,” Maharath said. “Congress stepped up to provide relief, and this week the Ohio Legislature stepped up and passed two bills that deliver this aid to Ohio businesses and organizations that need it most.”
Senate Bill 108 earmarks $125 million in aid to bars, restaurants and the lodging industry, while Senate Bill 109 allocates $556.9 million in aid for small and new businesses, childcare providers, fairs and more.
“As Ohio’s economy reopens, these bills will help Ohio businesses and organizations get back on their feet so that we can start to reenter a more normal world,” said Maharath. “I strongly encourage Governor DeWine to sign these bills and deliver Ohioans much-needed relief.”
